Why should he retire?! Why should he only make movies that are meant to old audiences?! I think this movie be be more like Totoro and i love that movie. I think Miyazaki is still filled with tons more magic! I think he just pursues that things that speak to his heart.

Last three Miyazaki movies have been these big epics (Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl) so I don't see why it would be wrong for him to move back to more "simple" movies like Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service which many still consider some of his best works. And how can you tell Ponyo is "totally geared towards 8 year olds" with only some seconds of footage shown? It doesn't look too different from Miyazaki's usual work to me..

Hmm...looks like its totally geared towards 8 year olds. What happen to the Miyazaki movies that brought the innocence/child out of adults? That trailer gave me the japanese version of "Barney and Friends" feeling. I think Miyazaki is far past his prime now and someone else has replaced him in what he used to be great at...that person is Makoto Shinkai. I respect Miyazaki for what he has given us though but he really needs to retire for real.

Looks great! I was skeptical of the watercoloring technique, but the animation looks very good. Too bad this won't hit North America till 2009.
